Fantastic short sword. I was surprised at the quality. Only criticism is that the little spike on the pommel is obnoxious when doing any kind of two-handed jazz. I ground mine down.

When I ordered “The Gladiator” I wasn’t expecting a lot. I unboxed it and was presently surprised, the edge was near shaving sharp and, the grip felt great in the hand. I put it through my normal tests, slashing a hanging 3/4 inch rope, chopping through a one inch piece of dry spruce tree limb. Being it’s double edged I chopped two limps. After the chop came the test to see if it held its edge. I hung an old T-shirt on a coat hanger and slashed across it. A clean cut was produced so I checked the second edge same result. The light weight and fact it is double edged earned the little blade a place lashed to the side of my backpack!

I got the Combat Commander Gladius early and I have put it through serious durability testing in my woods. NO BENDS! BLADE HOLDS AN EDGE, even against the toughest of material. I'm buying another!!

Very happy with this sword/machete. Don’t expect it to be anything more then a $50 tool and you will be happy too. I keep this bad boy under the seat of my pick up for general utility use and the off chance I might be lucky enough to wield it in a zombie apocalypse haha. Very Reminiscent of a gladius, came razor sharp, light but enough heft to do damage if used properly, and looks cool too. Have always been a fan of this style sword so was eager to buy it once I saw it. Might buy another one just because I like it that much and the price is perfect. In time the black coating will wear/scratch off from use. But that is to be expected. Disappointed I couldn’t get the one with the twin dagger and hope to eventually see it available again. Missed it by a week after seeing it on close out. Still makes me sad when I think about it. Had it in my cart but wasn’t able to free up the money before they sold out. Overall super happy I bought this and because it was my first purchase with true swords I’ve been coming back regularly, scouting for my next purchase. Which I just made a few days ago. Eagerly awaiting my next edged adventure! One last thing, because the gladius is my second favorite sword (katana being my first) if this design was ever forged from weapon grade steel, blued and built as a quality weapon for a reasonable price I would most certainly be interested in buying it as well. It would need a quality sheath/scabbard to come with it though. Like a molded composite or leather. Not nylon. True dark Damascus would even lure me to a reasonably higher price haha.

I have been holding off on buying this for awhile, finally went ahead and got one, as well as the Dagger Combo. Sword is awesome, well made, sharp and works! Same goes for the Dagger Combo...but that's for another review ;-) Will be purchasing the other Combat Commander Gladius line to complete the collection!

Received as a present. Very sharp, fun to handle but super oily upon opening. The worst part, the blade and handle are not perfect/true. No real world application so its just a toy. To nice to ruin on simple things so useless.

Omg this blade is awesome. Just got mine in the mail and I love it. Dont know why people are complaining, the blade is just as thick as advertised. It came sharp and ready, especially the tip. Good weight and swings like a dream. Honestly cant wait for somebody to mess with me! Great blade, a must have for any collecter.

I bought this thing just for kicks and giggles, but this is actually very finely made! The rubberized handle makes this weapon very comfortable to swing. I thickness of the blade and how light weight it is makes this a powerful short sword to slice through things. I just need to sharpen the blade a bit, but that's easy. 5 stars.

I bought 2 of these, one for myself and one for a gift for the owner of the company I work for. This sword looks great and has a very nice balance. The handle feels very comfortable and the blade is moderately sharp and very sturdy.

I have 4 of the combat commander, the gladius.....and I just read where a guy said he broke the tip. throwing in to a wood wall....well first of all it was not made to be thrown into wood...and I cut and trimed my two trees, in front of my house, it only took me a few minuets..these blades, are great they bend just right and don't actually break...I mean you can do a lot of dammage with a 1060 carbon blade...some Japonese katanas, are only like 1045-or 1050, and do a lot of dammage...I believe if used in it proper form...it is a most competive weapon...

I bought this sword to play around with and its a fun way to waste time. We threw bananas and oranges at each other and used the sword to cut the fruit. Mom was mad when I cut through the wall while my friend threw a banana half at me. The sword comes sharpened but I used a ceramic stick to sharpen even more. I got in trouble but had lots of fun. I washed off the blade with soap and water because of the acid from the oranges. Buy one and start cutting!

This sword looks amazing, double edge was sharp right out of the box. Blade was lighter and thinner than I expected. Handle was surprisingly comfortable and just feels good in your hand. The sheath is what worries me the most, when I remove and insert the blade, I'm extremely careful but being hasty 1 time could ruin this sheath if your not careful... Also, I bought this specifically for mushroom hunting (my machete replacement basically), I don't think the blade would handle abuse too well so I might avoid tree whacking with it if I were you

Great all-around piece for sword lovers. Lightweight and easy to handle, rubberized grip is super comfortable and great for handling. The length is just right for a one-handed sword. Sharp right out of the box and sheath is good quality and durable. Quickly becoming one of my favorites of my collection.

I bought two of these. Nice swords and fully functional. Whether you want a nice weapon to hang on the wall , for home protection or a Zombie Killer (lol) this sword fits the need. Do you like swords that are more than a wall hanger? get this sword. Light weight and easy to handle plus super cool looking. God bless.

This is a wicked sharp blade that can slice through pumpkins and cardboard with ease. It is a short sword but is fun to play with and swing around. its about two feet long and is a good size for a gladius.

The gladius was used by the Spanish Gaul tribes before Rome used it, so that probably means it was a very popular design.

Sword is sturdy. Really fun to beat trees with. The tip, very tip not even the first inch broke off, from me beating a tree. It is not a problem, a grinder fixed it. I knew it was going to happen right out of the box, it was just to narrow and pointy to last. Do not let that discourage you from buying this, it really is a nice weapon, i still use it and probably always will.

I took the edge off these and they were perfect for staged combat scene I worked on. I would suggest to buy two because duel wielding these bad boys are awesome!

I love the feel of the handle. has good sharp point, sides weren't very sharp. Easy fix. Sheath looks good just pull it in or out slow that way it'll last. Great sword for what I'll use it for. Don't think it would last long in battle, but with my sword skills won't let me last very long either. Have fun with your knives & swords, that's why you ordered it. Don't start bashing them soon as you get it in the mail.

Not a review of the sword itself, but rather of the product description. This style of sword was not used by the tribes of Europe, it was used by the Roman legions. It was their principle weapon, used in conjunction with the scutum (shield). It was also not used in the Coliseum or by gladiators- gladiators were show fighters, and it would be a very unconventional gladiator who would use something as mundane as a legionary's standard issue sword. The sword itself is great fun, but the description is inaccurate. Of course, I'm the person who actually devotes the five minutes to publicly correct people on the internet on unimportant issues, so this shouldn't really influence whether or not you buy the sword. I just kinda want people to know...

I may have bought every gladius "sword" (including the Cold Steel) on the planet and this is by far my fav. The full-tang blade is tough and comes sharp, although it could be sharper. It didn't take long to get it hair popping sharp with my sword stone. I sliced through rolled mats, watermelons and even hacked down some trees. It's basically a battle ready machete that looks like a sword. The sheath is great too. The quality is phenominal considering it is from United Cutlery, but they may be turning things around, I may try out their Honshu katana and wakizashi now. Thanks TrueSwords for another great purchase!

I really like this sword. It's sharp for hacking and has an excellent point for thrusts. The grip is spectacular because the handle doesn't slip with a wet sweaty hand. The length is good but if it were only 4 inches longer it would take over the world again---once bullets can no longer supply guns.

NICE SWORD-This sword has a FULL TANG ,high carbon steel blade. The blade is 2mm thick and of the same pattern as the ancient Roman Gladius. The leather and nylon sheath is also of good quality. It is not "razor sharp" but can be sharpened. Compared to the CS Gladius machete, which has a 2.8mm thick blade, this one is lighter and has a better grip. CAUTION: THIS IS A REAL BATTLE READY SWORD.USE WITH CARE!

This swords is really nice out of the box! When I opened it the first thing I noticed is that it had no damage and was dull but did have an edge so no complaints there. The one thing I would change is the pommel design, I want a pommel that isn't uncomfortable to hold. Everything is really good it takes a lot of abuse and all in all is fully functional. 4/5!

FIRST OFF, it's too light. it's falls kinda short of what I was hoping for from UC. BUT the lack of weight makes it very easy to handle and wield. now that I've seen and tested it, I WILL recommend it to my customers. I prefer it to the cheapos that sold as a gladius.

This is a fantastic sword. ..I have no problems or issues except one, I find it to be way to light. If it was about 3X the weight it would fit into the sword category easier

The feel is unbelievable. The edge great. The price awesome. As others have mentioned, the blade's a little on the thin side, carbon steel can handle that though. And had to Dremel off the "Skull Crusher", made shifting grip painful. However it's well worth the money and a VERY valuable addition to my outdoor gear.

Not bad for the money, this is NOT a traditional sword but a Machete. Came sharp, seems to be fairly well made, IMO better looking than the cold steel Gladius machete. If your looking for a traditional sword, well you should know you wont get one for this price, if you want something cheap to beat up in your back yard that looks like a sword then this might be the ticket.

It's a great Sword, I love it. It has an amazing rubberized handle, exactly like was advertised, doesn't slip. It's also got a nice weight and balance for a swing with good momentum behind it. The only issue I found was that when I got it the blade was very dull. Nowhere near Razor sharp as was said. It's required much work to get it to actually be of Razor quality. Other than the sharpness of the blade, it's amazing. Good length, grip, style, and quality overall.

The sword moves slightly in the handle, it seems sturdy though, the ring in the middle should hold it all together. The blade is carbon steel, the tip of the blade is very pointy, but it being so thin and pointy causes it to be prone to being broken or bent. I foresee some grinding of the point sometime down the line. Really awesome sword though, just got back from cutting down trees with it, performed quiet well, feels good in your hands. The sheath is nice to.

This is a very nice machete. It's 3 mm thick and 2 1/2 inches at its widest point. It's full tang with a comfortable rubber grip handle and it arrived fairly sharp. The sheath is also of decent quality. I think you could easily disarm (or leg)an intruder with it. It's probably the perfect length for swinging around indoors. I think it's well worth the $24.99 price tag. The only thing that bothers me is that the description describes the blade as being "thick". I know that thick is a subjective term, but I don't believe that any reasonable person would say a 3 mm blade is thick. This is a nice blade, you don't have to be hawking all the time. Just the facts, please.

I am impressed with the sword. Nice weight, good point, comfortable handle. A full tang blade that is carbon steel makes this a useful tool and weapon. There are places to attach a lanyard to. The blade was not the sharpest. The sheath is functional and has a place for a lanyard if you want to tie the bottom around your thigh. It secures the sword well with a snap on latch. The reinforced patch for the tip is a good idea. The sheath could be a bit sturdier in my opinion. A solid 4 stars and I do recommend this. It is battle ready with a bit more sharpening.

This thing is a total waste of money. Its cheap and you get what you pay for. The blade wiggles in the handle and the steel is very poor quality. The tip broke off mine for no apparent reason. I had only taken it out of the sheath to look at it, never even hit anything with the cheap little thing. The fractures steel reveled a dull rusty corroded color on the inside of the blade. UC made another gladius machete that I bought 2 or 3 years ago and it is far superior to the new model. This blade was also far smaller than the last one. It barely costs anything but I would avoid it unless you just want something to hang on the wall for the poor quality makes it utterly unreliable.
